The authentication information must be passed in the SOAP header. You may also prefer to use invoke the services through the alternate WSDLs which allow the authentication information to be passed as parameters. Please see http://www.strikeiron.com/authentication/ if you are using a language that does not easily allow you to access the SOAP header.
